MANILA, Philippines - Amid torrential rains unleashed by a southwest monsoon, Rescue 5 on Wednesday helped bring to safety two men trapped in rampaging waters in Barangay Sta. Lucia in Quezon City.
The two were among hundreds of residents in the area who were caught unprepared when flash floods submerged their homes.
With the help of the Philippine Navy's Naval Reserve Command, Rescue 5 planned on how to salvage the flood victims. The first team tried to enter the villlage, but was prevented by strong waves. The second Rescue 5 team on another boat was able to reach the flooded areas.
A pregnant woman was among those who asked help from Rescue 5. She slid while evacuating from the flooded community.
Also, on the same day, Rescue 5 went to flooded areas on Araneta Avenue that had become impassable to all types of vehicles.
The team witnessed a commotion in the area. People inside a building along the avenue panicked when a fire hit the establishment. There was also a boat full of evacuees including children that overturned. Fortunately, Rescue 5 and the people in the community were able to deliver them from harm.
