MANILA, Philippines - Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista welcomes the pending investigation of the Department of Interior and Local Government on the landslide which left nine dead last Tuesday in Barangay Commonwealth.

The landslide on Bayanihan St. in Litex Road struck at the height of the downpour.

"I welcome this investigation in order for us to determine the people who should be held accountable for this tragedy. Surely, heads will roll," said the city mayor.

Bautista also warned barangay officials to control the number of inform al settler families within their jurisdiction.

He pointed out that interior secretary Jessie Robredo has declared the 7,000-square-meter cliff where the landslide happened as a danger zone.

The government intends to pull out at the residents in the area so as not to put their lives in further danger.

Bautista added that the planned resettlement should not be misconstrued as demolition, but, as a rescue effort by the government.
