Cop killed as rogue Moro rebels attack outpost in Maguindanao

MANILA, Philippines -- A policeman from the elite Special Action Force was killed when fighters of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters harassed an outpost in Barangay Maitumig, Datu Unsay, Maguindanao Friday night.

Colonel Prudencio Asto, 6th Infantry Division spokesman, said Police Officer 1 Randy Dumaguing as the rebels, from a faction that broke away from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, fired on the detachment.

The attackers quickly withdrew when other policemen manning the outpost fired back.

The BIFF mounted simultaneous attacks on military outposts and installations in Central Mindanao earlier this week.
