MANILA, Philippines - NAIA Customs personnel and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) unit at Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) confiscated some 1.8 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, from a Nepalese national who flew in from Bangkok Friday night.
Customs Task Force on Dangerous Drugs and Controlled Chemicals (TFDDCC) head Sherwin Andrada and customs collector Teresita Roque identified the Nepalese as Tamang Sur Bahadur, 47. He arrived on board Philippine Airlines flight PR 731 around 7 pm with a black check-in luggage.
Andrada said that Customs examiner Marius Landicho was alerted to Bahadur’s luggage, and invited Bahadur to the customs office after he presented his customs declaration form.
In the presence of PDEA agents, customs police chief Col. Marlon Alameda, customs examiner Landicho and Bahadur himself, Andrada opened the luggage and found some 1.8 kilos of shabu hidden in false bottoms. The shabu is valued around P8 million.
Bahadur will be charged with transporting illegal/ dangerous drugs to the country. He was turned over to PDEA for the filing of charges.
