MANILA, Philippines -- President Benigno Aquino III said the administration will formally introduce its senatorial slate for the 2013 elections next month.
Aquino said they have whittled down the potential candidates from 30 to 13 -- still one more than the 12 seats up for grabs -- with re-electionist Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III the latest to sign on.
"We are now discussing who will get the last slot,” Aquino said. “Hopefully, by next month we will formally formally introduce our slate.”
Aquino said the coalition between the Liberal Party, Nationalist People's Coalition and Nacionalista Party was not a marriage of convenience.
"This is a coalition of people with shared principles. At the minimum, these are people who believe in our advocacies and where we would like to see our country go and who share our reform agenda," Aquino said.
