A perfect long weekend - sunny and fair weather ahead: PAGASA

MANILA, Philippines - It seems like it is going to be a perfect long weekend as the state weather bureau predicted Friday the country will experience generally fair and sunny weather in the next five days.

In a special 5-day weather outlook, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the country will experience "generally good weather condition" during the long weekend, August 18 to 21.

However,PAGASA added that isolated thunderstorms could occur in the afternoon or evening due to the "weak" southwest monsoon during this period.

While PAGASA said it expects a shallow low pressure area by Sunday, August 19, east of Luzon, it does not predict a tropical cyclone. However, the SLPA will initiate a southwesterly wind flow over the Philippines, bringing light to moderate rain in Northern and Central Luzon, and Mindanao from August 19 to 22.

"We anticipate a generally sunny, fair weather for the long weekend ahead, the best time to resume our usual weekend activities at home or elsewhere with our family and friends. It is also the best time to do and hang the laundry, and wash off the mud and dirt that built up during the recent monsoon rain and typhoon Helen," said Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo in a separate statement.

But PAGASA reminded the public of the recent disaster that killed at least 85 and affected over 3 million Filipinos.

"Despite the generally fair weather ahead, we should constantly bear in mind that some areas in Luzon are still under flood due to the past monsoon rains. Our hearts go to our people who could not yet go back to normal living conditions and we hope that the good weather ahead will somehow help improve their situation," PAGASA said.

PAGASA added that despite the generally fair weather," we continue to be on our toes in tracking the Philippine skies."
