MANILA, Philippines -- The United Nationalist Alliance on Saturday made light of Senator Aquilino Pimentel III’s defection to run as guest candidate of the administration Liberal Party in next year’s mid-term elections, calling it a “welcome development.”
“Senator Pimentel’s departure from UNA leaves one more slot available for another senatorial candidate in the UNA slate worthy of the people’s choice and support in the 2013 elections,” UNA spokesman JV Bautista said in a statement.
UNA is the coalition between Vice President Jejomar Binay’s PDP-Laban and former President Joseph Estrada’s Partido ng Masang Pilipino.
“The unity of UNA remains firm and unflinching. It is not in any way affected nor in the least inconvenienced by Senator Pimentel’s latest move,” Bautista said.
