MANILA, Philippines - Family and supporters of the late Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., the president's father, will remember him today, his 29th death anniversary, with a program at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 at 9 a.m. today.
According to the program, the president will deliver a special message, but it is still uncertain if he would be able to make it, according to NAIA's Office of Media Affairs.
The president's sister Balsy Aquino-Cruz will lead the program. Former Sen. Agapito "Butz" Aquino, the late senator's brother, will deliver an inspirational message.
Flowers will also be offered at NAIA's tarmac, where Ninoy was shot and killed almost 30 years ago.
Members of August 21 Movement Spirit of EDSA, Chino Roces Foundation, and Ninoy Aquino Movement, as well as Manila International Airport General Manager Jose Honrado III, will take part in the program, which includes a mass at 10 a.m.
A similar program will be held at NAIA Terminal 2 at 11 a.m.
Ninoy's assassination triggered the massive protests that forced then President Ferdinand Marcos to call for a snap election that resulted in Ninoy's widow, Corazon, winning the elections. As the first president after the dictatorship, the late President Corazon Aquino faced and endured many coups and natural disasters.
