MANILA, Philippines - (UPDATE 2 - 3:55 p.m.) A still unidentified woman was killed in an apparent suicide when she jumped in front of an onrushing train at Line 1 of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) EDSA station early Thursday, partially disrupting train schedules for several hours.

LRT Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said the incident occurred at 5:50 a.m.; the train was headed toward Monumento.

Train operations were fully restored at 9:35 a.m. Earlier, only those from Vito Cruz to Roosevelt and Roosevelt to Gil Puyat were operational.

The footage obtained from the station's closed circuit television (CCTV) camera showed that the woman ran and jumped at the tracks just as the security guard passed by her to warn her against going beyond the yellow line.

"It was really a case of suicide. It was seen on the video," Cabrera said.

He said the woman had no identification with her. All that was found in her possession was her LRT ticket and P29. She wore a gray t-shirt and skinny jeans.

The incident caused one of the trains to derail and workers had to use a jack to lift the train and retrieve the woman's body.

This was the first case of suicide inside the LRT station this year, Cabrera said. Last year, a man jumped at the LRT2-Cubao station. The man survived but doctors had to cut off his arm.

Statistics show 1998 with the most suicides involving the LRT Line 1 with seven incidents, five of them fatal.

Cabrera could not say how many passengers were affected because of the train disruption. LRT-1 has an average daily ridership of 500,000.
