MANILA, Philippines - The Filipino-American niece of a Northern Luzon town mayor, who was reportedly taken by her American father from a private school in Quezon City, flew to Los Angeles on the evening of the same day, immigration authorities said.

Nichole Ashley Ricks, 8, niece of Dolores, Abra Mayor Robert Victor Seares Jr., was confirmed to have boarded the flight based on information in the airline manifest.

“If a passenger is not on the immigration blacklist or hold departure order, he or she can leave the airport freely,” said sources from immigration.

The same officers explained that it was most likely the American father (Anthony Ricks), based on records, who accompanied his daughter on the same flight. Minors are not allowed to board their flight if they don’t have their parents accompanying them, or a letter of consent coming from either the father or the mother.

Ashley’s parents have long been separated, and earlier reports said Ashley’s mother is based in London.

The girl was fetched from the Holy Spirit School inside the BF Homes Subdivision in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City on Tuesday morning, and initial police reports quoted the school and subdivision guards as quoting Ashley that the man who took her was indeed her “daddy.”
