On August 30, the whole world observed the International Day of the Disappeared.
To commemorate the event, Facebook users took off their profile pictures as a form of solidarity to remember those who have gone missing and those who have become victims of enforced disappearances.
But as always, the event went beyond social media and the Internet.
In Manila, friends and relatives of the disappeared assembled at Plaza Miranda, right in front of Quiapo church, and then marched to Mendiola bridge.
They then demanded that the Aquino government address the eight cases of enforced disappearances reported during its first year and other similar cases, including some 206 victims who disappeared the
nine-year term of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
