MANILA, Philippines -– All well that ends well now between Senator Panfilo Lacson and Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila de Lima.
Senator Panfilo Lacson said on Friday that he had already made peace offering with De Lima through text on the DOJ chief’s birthday last August 27.
”I’ve learned that she was celebrating her birthday, so I ordered my staff to ask for her cell phone number so that I could greet her. If I could paraphrase, ‘if this is my way of offering peace to you,’ I said happy birthday,” Lacson said in a radio dwIZ interview.
”She replied. She said ‘what a pleasant surprise’ and she thanked me,” Lacson said.
The animosity between the two started when De Lima refused to honor a Court of Appeals (CA) ruling that nullified arrest warrant issued by the court against Lacson in January 2010 in connection with the killing of publicist Salvador ‘Bubby’ Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito in November 2000.
De Lima said that the arrest warrant against Lacson was still in effect because the CA ruling was not yet final and executory.
The opinion of De Lima irked Lacson, accusing the DOJ lady secretary of misinterpreting the CA ruling.
”I understand that she is so passionate to perform her duty and also learned that she was not singling out me,” Lacson said.
With this, Lacson said he would no longer opposed the confirmation of De Lima even as he promised to endorse her confirmation in the Commission on Appointments.
