President Benigno Aquino III has approved an anniversary bonus for officials and employees of the Social Security System, owing to their "sterling performance."

Worth P10,000, the bonus has already been released on August 31, Aquino said on Monday, citing Budget Secretary Florencio Abad.

"Because of the sterling performance you have shown, I did not hesitate to sign the 55th anniversary bonus for SSS employees," Aquino added.

"This may not be enough to compensate you efforts, but please consider this as a sign of our gratitude for your untiring service to the Filipino people," the President added.

In 2011, the net earnings of the state-run pension fund for private employees reached P25.5 billion.

This was 11.8 percent higher than the P22.8 billion net income of SSS in 2010.

Its investment income last year was also at P30 billion, 7.1 percent higher than the P28 billion posted in 2010.

Hard work of SSS employees has paid off with a 68 percent increase in the number of members and employers that have enrolled with the agency through its online services from January to April this year, Aquino said.

Web registrants in 2011 was at 189,576, and this has reached 318,000 for the first four months of this year.

"If SSS already has a Facebook page, I will not be surprised if you get thousands and thousands of likes from the Filipino people," the President said.
