ILOILO CITY - A total of 28 barangays in five municipalities in the province of Capiz have been affected by flash flood brought about by heavy downpour for the past few days.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council(PDRRMC) action officer Espiridion Pelaez said the rise of water level in low-lying barangays in the municipalities of Sigma, Dao, Pontevedra, Pan-ay, and Maayon was an aftermath of the heavy rains since Friday evening last week.

The PDRRMC action officer said that worst affected by the flash flood were palay farms in Sigma where crops ready for harvest were submerged.

Fortunately, there was no recorded casualty and evacuee in the flood-stricken municipalities.

The PDRRMC, Pelaez said, is presently coordinating with the Provincial Agriculture Office to determine the damage to agricultural crops particularly to palay caused by the flash flood in the five municipalities.

Meanwhile, members of the PDRRMC continuously keep watch on affected areas due to the inclement weather condition prevailing in the province of Capiz.

The PDRRMC earlier reported that Barangays Mansakul, Pagbunitan, Parian, Pinamalatican, Bangun-Bangon, and Mianay, all in Sigma town, has been affected by the heavy rains experienced in the province since Friday evening.
