MANILA, Philippines - A developing storm or low pressure area (LPA) was spotted off Batanes as the southwest monsoon threatens to bring more rains in southern Luzon and Visayas.

Based on the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the LPA was seen at 400 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes. LPAs close to land have a slightly lower chance of intensifying further into a storm.

About 2-3 storms are expected to enter the country this month, based on data from Pagasa.

“Occasional light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque and Palawan), Bicol region, and Western Visayas,” Pagasa said. “The rest of the country will have partly cloudy skies with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Based on News5’s Weather Center, moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Quezon province from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. today. Rains will also occur over Mindoro, Camarines Norte, Iloilo, and the Caraga region.
