MANILA, Philippines – Defense Secretay Voltaire Gazmin on Monday said his take-home pay was only about P67,000, quite far from the reported P1.7 million amount published in a newspaper’s business gossip section.
Gazmin was listed among top government officials in the so-called list of "highest paid government officials" in the Philippine Daily Inquirer's "Biz Buzz" section, but the DND chief stressed his net income was about P90,000 and with all the deductions, he only takes home P67,195 a month.
Gazmin said the report was "unfair."
I just want this clear. I had hoped you guys would do some basic research or at the very least ask me about it before publishing this kind of report]," he told reporters.
