MANILA, Philippines - (UPDATED 12:38PM) At least seven people died while three others remain missing after their boat capsized off Simunul, Tawi-Tawi Wednesday afternoon, the provincial police chief said.
In a phone interview, Senior Supt. Rodelio Jocson said MB MT Sarina was battered by huge waves off Bgy. Bakong, Simunul town at around 3 p.m. Wednesday, causing it to capsize.
The boat had 25 passengers on board and was bound for Bongao when it capsized.
Police, Navy and local residents were able to rescue 15 passengers and retrieved seven bodies. To this time, three persons including two children are still missing, Jocson said.
Only three of the fatalities were identified by NDRRMC as of posting time: Arbiya Liyoh, 35; Ping Liyoh, 4; and Tita Liyoh, 8.
One of the three missing was identified as Annaliza Hamsiri.
