Dengue cases in Iloilo City reach 2,111
ILOILO CITY - Seventy-two new cases of dengue were recorded in Iloilo City during the last two weeks of September bringing the total of cases from January to September to a record high of 2,111. Records at the city health office also showed that 14 persons have died, the last was five-year-old Richard Taclino of Dungon A, Jaro, Iloilo City. City health officer Dr. Mae Delmo reiterated her call on the public to maintain cleanliness. At the same time, Delmo also warned the public on the recent emergence of an alarming disease called "Japanese Encephalitis" which is also caused by mosquito bites. Delmo said this disease shows similar symptoms with dengue but its fatal effect was on the human brain.
She said health authorities have already monitored a case of the said disease in Surigao City.
