MANILA - The Loyola Meralco Sparks football team left for Singapore on board Cebu Pacific flight 5J803 at 8:30 Tuesday night from NAIA terminal 3.

The team advanced to the semi-finals of the 2012 RHB Singapore Cup and is scheduled to play Tampines Rover on October 4 at the Clementi Stadium and on October 7 at the Jelan Besar Stadium. The finals will be held at Jalan Besar Stadium on October 28.

The Sparks won in the preliminary round on May 18 against Geylang United FC, winning with the score of 2–1 in extra time and causing their advance to the two-legged quarter-finals, where they defeated Burma 5-3 before reaching the semi-finals that will start on October 4.

The team led by head coach Chul Kim and Assistant Coach Vincent Santos checked in early at the NAIA together with notable members like brothers Phil and James Younghusband.

Fans and co-passengers took photos of their favourite team members, lending a fiesta atmosphere at the check-in counter after the brothers arrived. Adoring fans tried to get a good shot of their idols, who gamely posed for souvenir photos.

Aside from the Younghusband brothers, other members of the team are:  Jerwin Belina, Gabriel Borja, Davide Cortina, Ref Delaney Cuaresma, Jayson Cutamora, Roxy Dorlas, Alexandro Elnar, Eliezer Fabraoda, Darren Hartmann, Mark Hartmann, Mathew Hartmann, Matthew Jaucian, Leo Carlo Liay, Paul Isiah Madrona, John Paul Merida, Jake Morallo, Peter Ian Mortillero, Ruffy Arvaez, Nicholas O’ Donnell, Patrick Ozaeta, Alvin Veleroso, Dexter Versario, and Gabriel Vorbeck.

The Loyola Meralco Sparks football club is owned by Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman of TV5 and Interaksyon.com, TV5 news portal.
