Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) extended its condolences to the relatives of three civilians killed in a supposed clash between soldiers and armed men that took place in its Davao del Sur project area.

The company, which proposes to run the Tampakan Copper-Gold project in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur, said it is leaving it up to the military to investigate the events that led to the killing of Juvy Capion and her children, Pop and John.

"We have extended our condolences to the family through the tribal leadership," SMI spokesman Manolo Labor told Interaksyon.com.

Groups are blaming the military over the death of the three civilians but the  troops stressed it was an encounter and not a raid.

The Army has already relieved nine soldiers and has already launched an investigation.

Labor said the site of the incident, Bgy. Kimlawis, was within the proposed project area of the Tampakan Copper-Gold project.
