MANILA, Philippines -- The proposed divorce bill requires a Constitutional amendment because the basic law of the land regards marriage as sacred requiring state protection, Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Farinas said on Wednesday.
Farinas, who used to be married to former beauty queen Ma. Teresa Carlson, compared the proposed divorce bill of Gabriela party-list Reps. Emmi De Jesus and Luz Ilagan to the lotto.
At the ongoing hearing of the House committee on revision of laws, Farinas said this is because a moment of unhappiness in marriage may immediately cause its dissolution.
This is like the lotto, where if the number combination you bet on did not win, you can bet on another number series until you win, Farinas said.
