MANILA, Philippines -- National Capital Region Police Office Director Leonardo Espina has dismissed three policemen from the service -- two for extortion and the other for infidelity in the custody of a prisoner.

Police Officers 1 Jason Tiamson and Tristan Gutierrez have been charged with robbery and extortion by Korean businessman Kim Byung Woo.

Woo said the two barged into his residence on July 19 last year and harassed him and his employees.

He said the policemen demanded a business permit and, when he could not show on, demanded P20,000. When Kim told them he had only P6,000 in cash, they allegedly demanded that he withdraw the difference from his ban account.

They also allegedly took his digital camera and sunglasses.

On the other hand, a theft suspect escaped while in the custody of Gabriente on April 26, 2009.

Espina also demoted Senior Police Officer 2 Leonilo Magallanes and suspended six other policemen: SPO2 Rolando Cartalla for falsification of public documents; PO3 Sancho Dichoson Jr. for violation of Republic Act No. 9262 (violence against women and their children); PO1 Ryan King D Gonzalez, PO2 Edgardo Taguiam, PO1 Alejo P Donguya and PO2 Amado Pangilinan for going absent without official leave.

Since Espina assumed his post last September, he has dismissed 73 policemen, demoted 19 others and suspended 72 more.
