MANILA, Philippines – He is resigned to being loveless on his birthday on Feb. 8 and on Valentine’s Day, but President Benigno Aquino III only has one wish for his birthday - that no crisis suddenly occurs to dampen his day.
"I am really not able to celebrate my birthday. I hope it would be a quiet day, at least for dinner I could treat my family, my nephews and nieces. I hope we are able to smile for the duration of the dinner," he said in an interview in Davos, Switzerland aired over state-run Radyo ng Bayan.
"That means hopefully there will be no sudden crisis on my birthday. But then again, if there is a crisis, that is life. I have a commitment to our people until 2016," he added.
The bachelor President said he also expects to remain single even as the entire country marks Valentine's Day on Feb. 14.
Asked if he will have a Valentine date next month, Aquino said: "Not at this time. That means it will probably be Joshua."
Joshua Aquino is the eldest son of the President's sister, actress Kris Aquino.
The President said the same loveless fate awaits him on his birthday."If I don't have a date on Valentine's Day which is farther from today, all the more that I will not have a date on my birthday."
Aquino explained he does not really need to invite Joshua. "If he senses that I am alone on Feb. 8 and Feb. 14, he will just say 'Tito Noy, can I pass by?'"
