MANILA, Philippines – With security tight and aides ensuring mediamen could not get near them, controversial actress and TV host Kris Aquino left for Europe Saturday afternoon with sons Joshua and Bimby, after a court denied Friday the bid of her ex-husband James Yap to block their trip.
They left via Emirates Airlines flight EK333 via Dubai at 5:35 pm at NAIA Terminal 1, and it is not known how long they will be away, though Kris said earlier she wanted to bring her sons to Paris Disneyland and to the Lourdes shrine in southern France.
Kris earlier held an exclusive mini-press conference for a TV network at the airport dignitaries’ lounge before boarding her flight.
Security was tight as mediamen were barred from taking pictures and video footage of their departure at gate 6 of the terminal.
Earlier, basketball star Yap had petitioned the court for a hold departure order (HDO) for her and their son James Jr. or “Bimby”.
His lawyer, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, argued that the HDO was necessary to make sure Kris and Bimby would return promptly, adding that the possibility of their extended stay abroad is heightened by the announcement of Kris that she had resigned from all her shows on ABS-CBN.
The court Friday not only denied James’ petition but also imposed a gag order on both James and Kris.
Last Friday, Kris petitioned the court for a temporary protection order against her ex-husband whom she accused of making “overt sexual advances” during a visit to her home in December, which allegedly traumatized Bimby in the process.
Yap said the supposed incident was a complete fabrication, and said all he wanted was to see his son regularly. It was apparent, he said, that Kris had been telling Bimby things that were alienating the child from him.
In a press conference on Wednesday, James said that Kris filed the TPO because she had failed to make him sign away his paternity rights to Bimby last month.
Earlier this month, Kris had announced her trip to Europe with Bimby and older son Joshua — her child from an earlier relationship with actor Phillip Salvador. She said she had originally planned the trip last year and was glad it would finally push through this Holy Week.
The 42-year-old, whose full name is Kristina Bernadette Aquino, said she was named after St. Bernadette, famous for the apparitions of the Our Lady of Lourdes in 1858.
