CALBAYOG CITY, Samar - Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas assured an investigation on the April 17 standoff between members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and political candidates in this city.
This he committed even as he also stressed that policemen are only doing their jobs when they serve search and arrest warrants.
The DILG secretary further said that what happened simply proved that even those who are with the camp of President Benigno S. Aquino III are being served with search and arrest warrants.
Earlier, Rosa Jessica Uy-Delgado, who is running for governor of the Samar province, said that she has already brought the incident before Roxas and requested for the creation of an independent body to investigate the said case.
Uy-Delgado is running under Liberal Party for the forthcoming May 13 midterm polls while her cousin Raymond Uy is an independent candidate.
Raymond Uy owns the van-type PUV that was paralyzed by the police during their chase of two wanted persons,
Meanwhile, Roxas, also requested the media to be also fair with their reports instead of criticizing police operations.
The local authorities in their report to the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 8) claimed that they took action upon information that two persons wanted for murder were on board the van.
The vehicle, however, sped away and tried to evade responding authorities.
Roxas graced the blessing and inauguration of the new Calbayog City Central Fire Station located in Barangay Capoocan, this city on Thursday and joined President Aquino during the Team PNoy sortie here on Friday.
