COTABATO CITY - Some 3,000 people have evacuated from Barangay Marbel, Matalam, North Cotabato and at least one person was killed following clashes between the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

Exchange of gunfire after the group of MILF-Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Force (BIAF) Commander Hadji Ali Mashur and Datu Demat Pedtamanan of the MNLF Community headed by Datu Dima Ambel.

The MILF-BIAF group only wanted to advocate for the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro when the encounter happened.

Police said the absence of proper coordination among the authorities triggered the fighting.

North Cotabato provincial police director Superintendent Danilo Peralta said at least one was reported killed in the firefight.

Police were immediately deployed to the area to help stop the escalation of the fighting, said 6th Infantry Division spokesman Army Colonel Dixson Germoso.
