CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao -- Alert policemen in Marawi City on Tuesday arrested two suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf who were planning to launch bombings in the city and its environs.

Chief Superintendent Noel Delos Reyes, police regional director in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, of which Marawi is a component city, said Termije Ahmad, alias "Emran Napeh," and Reneer Lou Dongon, alias "Roly Unting,"were cornered by policemen and soldiers in Barangay Fort.

Delos Reyes said the two were implicated in the 2012 bombing of the Maxandrea Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.

Seized from the suspects were bomb-making materials and a .45 caliber pistol.

Their capture came after police received information that Abu Sayyaf members planned to carry out bombings in Marawi on Election Day.

However, while there was a bomb explosion on Monday, this was believed to be election-related and not an act of terrorism.
