Underpass construction on Quezon, Araneta Avenues start

MANILA, Philippines -- Construction of the Quezon and Araneta Avenues (C-3) underpass will begin this week as motorists are again advised to take alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic.

Portions of the two main roads will be closed for the construction of the underpass by the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Monday.

The MMDA Metrobase said construction equipment were already being deployed in the area and construction could start by Wednesday, June 22.

Affected motorists are told to expect heavy traffic and take the following alternate routes:

From EDSA to Quiapo:

From West Avenue, right to Del Monte, left to G. Araneta Avenue, right to Amoranto Sr. Avenue or Maria Clara, left to Banawe or D. Tuazon to destination. 

From West Avenue, right to Del Monte, left to Banawe or D. Tuazon or Mayon Avenue to destination.

From Quezon Avenue, right to Roosevelt, left to Del Monte, left to G. Araneta Avenue, right to N.S. Amoranto Sr. Avenue or Maria Clara, left to Banawe or D. Tuazon to destination.

From Quezon Avenue, U-turn after Roosevelt, right to Don A. Roces Avenue, right to Scout Reyes, right to Umbel, left to Dona Rodriguez, right to E. Rodriguez Sr. Blvd. to destination. 

From E. Rodriguez Sr. Blvd., straight to Espana to destination.

From Aurora Blvd., straight to R. Magsaysay Blvd./Legarda, or right to A. H. Lacson to destination.

From A. Bonifacio, left to Mayon Ave., Welcome Rotonda, right to Espana to destination.

From Quiapo to EDSA:

From Espana, straight to E. Rodriguez Sr. Blvd. to destination.

From Espana, Welcome Rotonda, straight to Quezon Avenue, take U-turn slot near Speaker Perez Street, right to Mayon Avenue, right to N.S. Amoranto Avenue or A. Bonifacio to destination.

From Espana, right to A. Lacson, left to R. Magsaysay Blvd., Aurora Blvd. to destination.

Construction of the said project will take 15 months, the MMDA said.
