MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE 2 - 10:04 a.m.) Tropical storm "Falcon" left the Philippine area of responsibility Saturday morning but the monsoon rains it has been enhancing have so far affected over 300,000 persons in four regions, including Metro Manila and are expected to continue drenching Metro Manila and other parts of the country over the weekend.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 15 persons remain missing.
As of 4 a.m., an intensified "Falcon,” now packing maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 135 kph was estimated to be 590 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes and moving north northwest from the country at 24 kph.
Although the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration lowered all public storm signals, it said Metro Manila and the rest of northern and central Luzon will continue to have light to moderate rains throughout the day, although the weather could improve by Saturday afternoon.
Radyo Singko reported that Philippine Airlines has cancelled its Manila-Puerto Princesa-Manila flights (PR 195, PR 196) and its international flight PR 438 to Nagoya, Japan.
The NDRRMC said 68,939 families, or 329,904 persons, were affected by "Falcon" in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, and Bicol regions.
In Central Luzon, 40,718 families, or 186,951 persons, were evacuated in Bulacan, Pampanga, and Zambales as monsoon rains lashed these provinces Friday night.
Early Saturday morning, Dino Balabo of Bulacan’s Mabuhay Newspaper reported that floods have affected 28,421 families, or 133,533 persons in the province. Of these, 3,498, or 16,299 persons, had to be evacuated.
Balabo also reported severe flooding in the towns of Balagtas, Baliuag, Bocaue, Bulakan, Bustos, Calumpit, Guiguinto, Hagonoy, Malolos, Marilao, Meycauayan, Norzagaray, Obando, Paombong, San Ildefonso, San Jose Delmonte and Santa Maria.
In Marikina City, more persons had to be evacuated after the Tumana River overflowed early Friday evening. The NDRRMC tallied 2,354 families or 11,058 persons.
All in all, a total of 19,594 persons were evacuated in the Metro Manila cities of Caloocan, Makati, Malabon, Manila, Marikina, Quezon, Taguig and Valenzuela.
Missing
Fifteen persons remained missing and another was reported injured, the NDRRMC said.
In Albay and Catanduanes, 13 persons were missing, mostly fishermen.
In Rizal, three-year old Angelica Recome of Golden City Subdivision was missing and in Olongapo City, 14-year old Fedelito Muana of Barangay East Bajac-bajac was also reported missing.
A tornado that lashed through Quezon City's New Manila District Thursday afternoon injured Lily Rose Cecista. The tornado hit Barangay Immaculate, Balete Drive corner 9th St., Hibiscus Street, 6th Street corner Balete Drive, Bongavilla corner Cannon Street, Barangay Mariana, and New Manila.
"The tornado partially damaged 15 houses and caused the fence in Kamuning Police Station to collapse, damaging two taxi cabs and one Mazda sedan. It also caused trees and electric posts to fall," the
NDRMC said.
Roads closed
Several roads in Metro Manila and other parts of the country remained flooded.
In Metro Manila, these were:
Makati – The corner of Hon P Binay cor Hen. Bonifacio in Brgy Bangkal is impassable to all types of vehicles. P, Medina St., dela Rosa Avenue, E. Ramos St., T. Taylo, and L. Facundo St. In Brgy Pio del
Pilar are not passable to all types of vehicles;
Valenzuela – Brgy. Lingunan from rubber master to Dumpsite are all impassable to all types of vehicles while Brgy. Bisig, Polo Plaza in Brgy. Polo, Elysian Street in Brgy. Marulas, Main Road in Brgy. Palasan, F. Andaya St. In Brgy. Wawang Pulo. Maurrutia in Brgy. Arkong Bato, and A. Deato St. In Brgy. Balangkas are not passable to light vehicles;
Malabon - Maton Perez in Tonsuya is not passable to all types of vehicles while C. Arellano Sagwa, Sitio 6, Don Juana and R. Cruz in Dampalit, Matsilo (infront of M-1), Messina in MH del Pilar, Bustamante, M. Clara, Tatawid Intersection, Panghulo Road, Sto. Rosario, and Gov Pascual Niugan are not passable to light vehicles. However, Gen Luna and Caingin in MH del Pilar is passable to all types of vehicles;
Paranaque – the roads in or around Brgys Baclaran (Bagong Sikat, Bagong Ilog, Bagong Lipunan), Tambo (seaside, Camp Claudio, St. Joseph, Quirino), Sto Nino (Kaingin, Casino Filipino), Vitalez (Banana
Compound, Airlane), San Isidro (Valley 15, Valley 2, Valley 6, Purok 3 & 5, Matatdo) San Antonio (Bodoni Dulo Area 3, Lower 5-4 Area) BF Homes (Lagoon Area) Don Bosco (Amethyst Street, Annex 19 & 18, El
Dorado Dulo, Malacanang Dulo) and Sun Valley (Annex 41) are not passable to light vehicles;
Pasay – Brgys 177, 180, 181, 182, 183, 184, and 185 are all impassable to light vehicles. Protacio and Cartimar in Taft Avenue is impassable to light vehicles;
Las Pinas – Basa Compound in Zapote and Perpetual Village in Pulang Lupa Uno are impassable to light vehicles.
In the Cordillera Administrative Region, the Baguio-Bontoc Road (Km 283+800) Topdac Section in Benguet is only partly passable due to rockslides. The Shilan-Beckel Road K0263+740 is closed to traffic due to a road cut.
In the Calabarzon, the Lian Section of Nasugbu-Lian-Calatagan Road K0100+100- K0100+600 is flooded before and after Bagbag Bridge and is there impassable to light vehicles. Sumulong highway after Masinage going towards Marikina impassable to light vehicles.
