Bus driver tries to run over policeman he sideswiped in QC, clobbered by bystanders

MANILA - A driver of Admiral Bus is possibly facing attempted murder after he allegedly tried to run over a policeman whom he sideswiped along Congressional Avenue Wednesday night in Quezon City.

The victim, Police Officer 3 Reynaldo Tumala, was saved by bystanders from bus driver Paolo Butin, who was also rushed to the hospital for medical treatment after he was clobbered by angry bystanders who witnessed his alleged attempt to kill off the injured policeman.

Tumala sustained minor injuries from Butin’s reckless driving.

Tumala told his fellow cop investigator the incident happened at around 9 p.m. while he was walking back to the mobile car when suddenly the bus sideswiped him.

Investigators said bystanders were able to stop Butin from “killing” off the cop by throwing stones at the bus, with some of them getting on board and forcibly taking out Butin from the vehicle.

Death insurance is cheaper compared to medical insurance. 

Commonwealth Avenue has earned the reputation of being a "death highway" for having the most number of deaths resulting in collisions and crashes. The highway has been widened to at least eight lanes per direction. It has become difficult for many pedestrians to cross the road, as pedestrian overpasses are few and far between. Some take their chances crossing the highway instead. Drivers also find it difficult to maneuver U-turn at the U-turn slots if they are coming from the curb side of the road.
