(UPDATE 2 - 7:20 p.m.) MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday submitted before the Department of Justice its recommendation for the filing of a criminal case against Cedric Lee, his sister Bernice, student-model Deniece Cornejo and several others in connection with the mauling of comedian-TV host Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro.

Based on their findings, the NBI recommended to the DOJ the filing of charges of serious illegal detention, serious physical injuries, grave threats, grave coercion, unlawful arrest and threatening to publish and offer to prevent such publication for a compensation against the Lee siblings, Cornejo, a certain Ferdinand Guerrero, Zimmer Rance, an alias “Mike”, John and Peter Does.

Among others, the NBI’s recommendation was based on the testimonies of security guard Lero Garvin, Navarro’s driver Rommel dela Cruz, and the CCTV footage taken on the night of Jan. 22, 2014 when Navarro was beaten “black and blue” in a condominium unit in Taguig City by the group of Cedric Lee after an attempted rape was allegedly committed on Cornejo.

Both Cornejo and Cedric Lee have failed to appear before the NBI to give their side of the story.

Vhong, lawyer file complaint with NBI

Earlier Tuesday, the camp of Navarro filed criminal charges against  Cornejo, businessman Lee, and six others in connection with the January 22, 2014 mauling of the comedian-TV host at Forbeswood Heights Condominium in Taguig City.

Navarro and his counsel, Alma Malonga, went to the National Bureau of Investigation in Manila to file the complaints based on the testimonies of security guard Lero Garvin, Navarro's driver, Rommel dela Cruz, blotter entries, CCTV footage, and records from the condo's logbook.

The complaint was for grave coercion, illegal arrest, blackmail, serious illegal detention, serious physical injury, and grave threat.

The other individuals charged are Cedric's sister, Bernice Lee, Zimmer Rance, Fernando Guerrero, a certain Mike, and two unnamed persons.

According to Navarro, he was tied up, blindfolded, and beaten up by Cedric and five other men, who also tried to extort P2 million from him.

Cornejo accused Navarro of attempted rape.

According to Cedric, he and Rance were supposed to fetch Cornejo on the night of January 22 when they heard somebody screaming from the unit where Cornejo was staying.

He said the door to Cornejo's room was fortunately unlocked thus he and Rance were able to get inside where they allegedly caught Navarro on top of Cornejo.
