MANILA – Dr. Lorraine Marie Badoy, who even when she was assistant secretary at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has been actively engaging netizens critical of the President, has just gotten a promotion – in an agency that may have use for her eagerness to communicate.

Malacañang Palace has just announced her appointment as undersecretary for new media at the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO).

Badoy’s appointment by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was announced by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on Monday (Oct. 23).

Reacting to Badoy’s appointment, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar issued this statement:

“We welcome Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy to the Presidential Communications Operations Office family. We look forward to working together as we bring the government closer to the people by keeping them informed of the progress this administration is making towards changing the country for the better. We have seen Dr. Badoy’s passion for serving our people in her work at the DSWD. We are confident that the same zeal and enthuasiasm that animated her in caring for the less privileged will enable us to more effectively reach out to more people through new media.”

Badoy was appointed assistant secretary during the time of Judy Taguiwalo as DSWD chief. At that time, Taguiwalo, whose confirmation has since been rejected by gthe Commission on Appointments, described Badoy’s work at DSWD as “focal person” of the Secretary’s office “in implementing the medical assistance to the drug dependents undergoing rehabilitation.”

The doctor of medicine was known to have done volunteer work with victims of Typhoon Yolanda.
