People’s Television assured that the video editor responsible for using a photoshopped image of a Navy warship in its story has been sanctioned.
“Please be advised that the video editor responsible for downloading and using the said photos without proper verification has already been sanctioned,” the management of its show “Ulat Bayan” said in a statement.
PTV said the editor just downloaded the photo from the internet.
“Consequently, other PTV news producers and editors have likewise been warned against making similar mistakes in the future,” it added.
The state-run agency was recently in hot water for using the edited photo of a Chinese ship to support its video report on President Rodrigo Duterte’s plan to deploy a Navy frigate to Libya.
PTV’s Ulat Bayan had immediately apologized for its “inadvertent use” of the photos and promised to do better in its future reports.
“Moving forward, we shall take more diligent measures to deliver straightforward and accurate news to the Filipino people,” its apology said.
The video had since been deleted on PTV’s Facebook and YouTube accounts.
The gaffe earned the ire of people online wherein they questioned the budget hike being asked by its parent agency, the President Communications Operations Office.

PTV was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 7306 and amended by Republic Act No. 10390, wherein one of its primary functions is to “ensure that the programs broadcast by the Network maintain a high general standard in all respects, and in particular, in respect to their content and quality and proper balance of educational, news, public affairs, entertainment, and sports programs.”
