MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday said it exceeded last month's collection goal.

In a statement, the agency, which accounts for two-thirds of the government's revenues, said it raised P68.69 billion in February, or nine percent more than its target for the month.

Last month's performance also was 29 percent higher than the P53.41 billion collected in February 2011.

BIR operations generated P61.36 billion, while non-BIR operations netted P7.34 billion.

Last February's collections raised the BIR's two-month haul by 20 percent to P153.84 billion from the same period last year's P127.99 billion. Collections for the first two months of this year exceeded target by two percent.
