MANILA, Philippines - Exports from the Clark economic zone surged 161 percent to $3.912 billion last year from $1.453 in 2010, according to state-run Clark Development Corp. (CDC).
"Because of the growing business confidence of locators and investors inside here, Clark is one among the economic zones in the country to benefit from the influx of new business and increase in expansion programs by big ticket local and international companies," CDC said in a statement.
According to CDC, Texas Instruments Inc. was the top exporter last year, shipping $1.53 billion worth of electronics goods.
This was followed by Nanox Philippines Inc., $79.064 million; Phoenix Semiconductor Philippines Corp., $566.09 million; Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc., $298.06 million; L&T International Group Philippines Inc., $145.10 million; and SMK Electronics (Phils) Corp., $98.49 million.
The CDC in 2011 signed a total of 207 projects with a total committed investment of P22.97 billion that would promised employment of 8,206 workers.
As of last year, employment in Clark reached 64,055 workers, up six percent from the previous year's 60,162.
