MANILA, Philippines - The operator of Cebu Pacific is seeking additional seats for flights bound for South Korea.
“We asked for almost 4,000 seats, following the successful air talks held by the air panels of South Korea and the Philippines early this month,” said Candice Iyog, Cebu Air Inc. (CEB) vice president for marketing and distribution.
The Gokongwei-owned airline's request amounts to another 21 flights a week from the carrier's current 29.
Cebu Pacific operates the Manila-Incheon route twice daily; Cebu-Incheon, daily; Manila-Busan, four weekly; and Cebu-Busan, four weekly.
The Philippines and South Korea this month concluded air talks, resulting in an additional 9,500 weekly seats. Carriers flying between the two countries have 19,000 seat entitlements a week.
“Now both sides can mount as much as 28,500 seats per week. These seats can be used at any points in the country and the CAB will allot them depending on the requirement of an airline,” said Carmelo Arcilla, executive director of the Civil Aeronautics Board.
“Tourists from Korea are our biggest market. Last year, we had about 925,000 Korean arrivals in the country and we see that increasing to one million this year,” he said.
