MANILA, Philippines - Digitel is seeking a longer permit to operate and maintain a nationwide local exchange carrier (LEC) with the impending expiry of its provisional authority on May 2.
In its application for a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN), Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc. told the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) that it aims to establish a total of five interconnection links with Globe Telecom Inc., 14 with Innove Communications Inc., and seven with Smart Communications Inc. by 2014.
Digitel also aims to establish 27 interconnection links with parent firm Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. in two years from the eight envisioned this year.
As of this year, Digitel already has six links with an installed capacity of 4.04 million lines in eight provinces each in the Visayas and Mindanao.
