MANILA, Philippines - Singapore Airlines' budget unit, Scoot Pte. Ltd., has signed up the PLDT group's business process outsourcing (BPO) unit to handle its customer care services.

In a statement, SPi Global said it will handle flight bookings and after-sales support. The company said its call center representatives speak in English, Mandarin, and Japanese.

“We are proud that Scoot has tapped us for their operations. We look forward to working with Scoot as they establish a foothold in their market,” said Maulik Parekh, SPi Global president.

“With our experience representing leading companies in the Asia Pacific and United States, we understand how important customer service is in generating customer loyalty and new business. This is especially true in the airline industry,” he said.

“We believe there is much promise for the Asia Pacific region in terms of call center services. Businesses are thriving and new ones are being formed. With SPi Global’s talented employees, we know we can handle this predicted demand for our services,” he added.

Scoot, which starts with a fleet of four Boeing 777 aircraft, will mount medium- and long-haul no-frills flights linking Australia, Singapore and China, come June.

“We warmly welcome SPi Global into the Scoot family and we’re confident that the company will live up to its reputation for providing professional call center services with Scootitude,” Campbell Wilson, Scoot chief executive officer, said in a statement.
