Emperador Distillers, Inc., a unit of Alliance Global Group, Inc. (AGI), has acquired a new production plant to boost the company's liquor production.
AGI said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange that the company's beverage arm completed the purchase of a production facility from Diageo Philippines, Inc.
"The acquisition aims to boost [Emperador's] production capacity and competitiveness here in the Philippines and abroad," the company said.
Diageo is an international firm that specializes in premium drinks. The latter's plant is located at the Laguna Technopark in Binan, Laguna.
Diageo has a collection of alcohol brands across spirits, beer and wine that include Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, J&B, Windsor, Buchanan's and Bushmills whiskies, Smirnoff, Ciroc and Ketel One vodkas, Baileys, Captain Morgan, Jose Cuervo, Tanqueray and Guinness.
Andre L. Tan, AGI chairman, said that the acquisition of the latter's production facility will help "increase our production and technical capabilities."
The company behind The Bar, Emperador Brandy and Generoso Brandy sees continued profitability with net earnings projected to grow by at least 20 percent this year.
"Emperador is looking at 2012 as another record year in terms of sales revenues and net income," Tan said.
Emperador, considered as the largest-selling brandy brand in the world by volume, booked a net profit of P2.31 billion last year, 38.1 percent higher than the P1.67 billion registered in 2010, after more than doubling its revenues to P17.35 billion.
