MANILA - Aboitiz Power Corp.'s hydro unit has secured regulatory approval to operate the Irisan power plant in Benguet.
In a decision, the Energy Regulatory Commission found Hedcor Inc.’s 3.8-megawatt Irisan 1 hydro plant located in Barangay Tadiangan, Tuba of the said province complying with the necessary requirements to secure a certificate of compliance for the plant's operations.
“The ERC is glad that another plant has been completed and more so since it uses a renewable non-carbon gas emission source. This plant will fortify the generation capacity of the country and can preempt events where power demand out-shadows supply,” Zenaida G. Cruz-Ducut, ERC chairperson, said.
A COC attests to a power plant's compliance with environmental, technical and financial standards as well as the cross-ownership and market share limitations set by regulators.
The COC is valid for five years and must be renewed six months prior to its expiration.
Hedcor is the largest developer of run-of-river plants in the Philippines with over 15 such facilities across the country. Run-of-river technology requires no large water-impounding facilities.
The output of Irisan 1 will be fed to the Luzon grid through the 69-kiloVolt Aguyad Main Substation of National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, and will be sold to distribution utilities and other qualified buyers through bidding at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.
