MANILA - Meralco has deferred the technical pilot test for prepaid electricity from July to November.
Alfredo S. Panlilio, senior vice president and head of customer retail services and corporate communications at Manila Electric Co., said the company needs more time to fine-tune the technical aspects of the technology.
The deferral moves the pilot run of prepaid electricity from November to December.
Panlilio said Meralco will tap a foreign "integrator," which will synchronize the prepaid platform, Meralco system and telecommunications loading infrastructure for the project.
The pilot run will be done in Angono, Rizal, involving less than 400 households, each with a 200 kilowatt-hour monthly consumption.
Panlilio said a commercial pilot would follow, involving 40,000 customers.
Prepaid electricity would allow consumers to control their consumption in the same way they use prepaid services for telecommunication.
