The Philippines' main airport will have more space for the future cargo requirements of its third terminal after the Nayong Pilipino Foundation turned over additional properties to the facility.
On Wednesday, control over 22.3 hectares - slightly larger than 22 football fields - were handed over to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), which runs the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The turnover will allow the expansion and development of the new international cargo terminal facility to support the growth and needs of NAIA Terminal 3, officials said in a statement.
It will also help expand Terminal 2, they said.
The property turnover was mandated by executive order No. 58 dated September 29, 2011 and signed by President Benigno Aquino III, "Mandating the Transfer of Nayong Pilipino Foundation Pasay Property to Manila International Airport Authority."
On Wednesday, NPF trustee and Executive Director Lawyer Apolonio Sanota, Jr. formally turnover to the MIAA the property represented by MIAA Committee Chairman for the turnover (ret.) MGen. Salvador G. Peñaflor.
In 1972, the NPF was given a 45.9-has property in Pasay City, a portion of which was occupied by the Nayong Pilipino Cultural Park (NPFPark).
In 2002, then President Arroyo allowed the transfer of 8.6 hectares of the NPF property to the MIAA and the closure of the NPF Park that was moved to the 15-has property of the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) in Parañaque City in 2007. InterAksyon.com
