MANILA – The Philippine air panel will seek more flight entitlements outside Manila from Singapore, United Arab Emirates and Kingdom of Saudi Arabai, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board.
"The bulk would be outside Manila. But Manila is still part of the equation although there's a congestion. For public convenience and comfort, we cannot altogether remove Manila in the equation," Carmelo Arcilla, CAB executive director told reporters.
Arcilla said the Philippines will hold air talks with Singapore on August 15 and 16, with UAE on September 5 and 6, and with KSA on September 24 and 25.
Cebu Pacific had requested air talks with Middle East countries in its bid to mount long-haul flights out of Manila starting in the third quarter of next year. The carrier wants to tap the 2.2 million OFWs in the region.
The Aquino administration wants to further open up the airline market to help bring in six million tourists, create three million jobs and $4.6 billion in tourism revenues by 2016.
Under Executive Order 29, airports other than the Ninoy Aquino International Airport would be opened to more foreign traffic.
