MANILA - National Grid Corp. of the Philippines has completed the upgrade of a substation in Luzon that feeds Metro Manila's electricity requirements.
In a report, NGCP said it completed last month the replacement of the load capacity of the 100-megavolt ampere Cruz-Na-Daan substation in San Rafael, Bulacan to a new 100-megavolt ampere transformer and associated equipment.
The said substation acts as a gateway for Manila Electric Co.
Besides the upgrade, NGCP is completing the installation of a new 300-megavolt ampere transformer unit at the Cabanatuan substation in Nueva Ecija.
"Additional installation of capacities would avert any overloading of existing power transformer of connected local distribution utilities, power generations and other industries in Nueva Ecija and Aurora," NGCP said.
This project is set for completion by the end of this month.
The upgrade and expansion of the substations are part of NGCP's Luzon Substation Expansion I Project, which involves the installation of additional transformers to accommodate load growth and provide N-1 contingency at various substations in North and Central Luzon.
“N-1 contingency” refers to the ability to withstand the loss of a major system component with minimal disruption to the grid.
Controlled by Henry Sy Jr. of the SM group and State Grid Corp. of China, NGCP holds the 25-year concession to operate the Philippines' power transmission highway.
