MANILA - Two Philippine low-cost carriers want to fly to Papua New Guinea, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board.

Data from CAB showed that Cebu Air Inc. has applied for 540 seat entitlements under Route 1 in accordance to the existing Confidential Memorandum of Understanding.

Zest Airways Inc. is also asking for 540 seat entitlements.

In August last year, the Philippines and Papua New Guinea agreed to amend their air services agreement by increasing entitlements to 600 seats per week from the prevailing 150.

The new route was also agreed for all airports outside Manila at 1,500 seats per week.

At present, no Philippine carrier flies to Papua New Guinea. Air Niugini however flies two times weekly to Manila.
