MANILA - The Bases Conversion and Development Authority wants to evaluate the contracts of locators in Camp John Hay after a Sobrepena-led property developer refused to pay P3 billion in arrears to the government.
"There's still investors coming in. The reason why we issued a notice to the public about the status of our contract with Camp John Hay Development Corp. is to properly advise them on what to do. We need to assess and evaluate the contract that they entered into. Then, we will see their rights under those contracts," Arnel Casanova, BCDA president and chief executive, told reporters on Wednesday.
Casanova said some of the locators have problems with their lease period because their agreements last until 2046, while that between CJHDevco and BCDA is only up to 2021.
"Each day that CJHDevco continues to hold on to the property without giving government what is justly due is causing irreparable injury to the public sector," Casanova said.
He said the collection of the arrears was "non-negotiable" despite the numerous harassment suits that CJHDevco filed against BCDA officials.
"As stewards of this government-owned property, it is our sworn duty to compel CJHDevco to comply with its financial obligations to the people," Casanova said.
Earlier, CJHDevCo filed a perjury case against Casanova for allegedly making untruthful statements under oath in an estafa case for double sale of Log Home No. 9 that BCDA against CJHDevCo officers.
The CJHDevCo also filed a libel complaint against BCDA's Board of Directors and a newspaper.
