MANILA - Maintenance work at the Malampaya natural gas platform will be completed on July 20, with the Department of Energy saying the shutdown caused no power outages in Luzon.
“We would like to thank the Malampaya gas field operators, all the power generators, the Grid Management Committee, National Grid Corp. of the Philippines, National Power Corp., and other stakeholders for their commendable cooperation and commitment, as well as careful planning and excellent execution. Everyone did their part and delivered to ensure that there is enough power to meet the demand with the least impact to consumers," said Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras.
“Truly, this is an example that when Filipinos decide to work together, things really move well. We are thankful that everyone imbibed the spirit of nationalism by doing everything to protect the welfare of every Filipino in terms of power needs,” he added.
The Malampaya gas field supplies three power plants – the Sta. Rita and San Lorenzo plants with a combined 1,500 megawatts, and the Ilijan power plant with another 1,200 megawatts.
These power plants supply 40 percent of Luzon's electricity requirements.
