MANILA - DMCI Holdings Inc. on Wednesday said its property company will proceed with the development of a residential tower behind the Luneta Park.
"I think the project will go through. I think may comments lang and Council ng Manila which we try to address," Isidro Consunji, DMCI Holdings president and chief executive officer, said on the sidelines of the company's stockholders meeting.
Consunji said it has received its building permit for the Torre de Manila project, just 30 meters across the Luneta Park, and 789 meters from the Rizal Monument based on the company's website.
Unit DMCI Project Developers is introducing the project to the market, with response "quite encouraging,” the company said, citing the presence of nearby offices, hospitals and government offices.
"Underserved 'yung area…Mukhang positive naman 'yung response," Consunji said.
The Manila City council began an inquiry into the project last month after it was presented a petition by nearly 4,000 signatories led by artist-activist Carlos Celdran, who claims the high-rise residential tower will mar the view of the Jose Rizal Monument.
According to reports, the Manila City council will file complaints in court against local government and corporate officials after a report from the oversight and ad hoc committees showed violations in the construction of the project.
