MANILA - (UPDATED 3:46 p.m.) The SM Group and Ayala Malls announced on Tuesday that their shopping centers are still open despite the heavy monsoon rains that caused massive floodings in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

"SM Malls are open wherever possible for our customers looking for basic necessities or simply seeking alternative venue from home, away from rain and flood," Tessie Sy-Coson, SM Investments Corp., vice chairperson, said in a statement.

The company has also converted its SM Megamall Event Center into a relief drop off center for those who want to donate goods to victims of the flood.

Ayala Malls, through its Twitter account (@AyalaMalls) said it accepting donations for flood victims. These may be handed over to Concierge booths in all of its shopping centers.

"We're allowing stores to close in Ayala Malls, but our Malls are open to provide temporary shelter for those who are stranded," it said.
