MANILA - The Philippine Stock Exchange will resume trading on Wednesday.

"Please be advised that trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange resumes today, August 8, 2012," the bourse said in a statement.

The PSE on Tuesday suspended trading as well as clearing and settlement at the Securities Clearing Corp. of the Philippines after torrential rains caused floods in Metro Manila and adjacent provinces

"Weather permitting, investors will continue to face challenges to the market’s psychology as trades resume Wednesday. Second quarter earnings will be closely watched with anticipation of more positive numbers, sustaining the trend among early releases," said Jun Calaycay of Accord Capital Equities Corp.

"On the other hand, the approach of the Chinese Ghost Month running between mid-August to mid-September may serve to temper trading, as investors opt for liquidity over the period," Calaycay added.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 51.09 points, or 0.4percent, to 13,168.60 on stronger corporate profit reports and optimism that central banks will act to boost growth.
